In addition to the monetary support given by the church , members of the church contribute their talents to Habitat for Humanity in a number of ways. Susan Parks, in addition to being the Winthrop United Methodist Church's representative to Habitat for Humanity, serves on the Southern Kennebec County Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors. Habitat work sessions are announced during services and in the church bulletin and members donate their time if they are able. Some members of the church provide food to those laboring on projects.

Recently, a number of Winthrop United Methodists got together to support a workday at a project that remodelled a building that was previously the home of the American Lung Association at 128 Sewell St. in Augusta, ME. That project is now complete and an Open House was held on February 9, 2002. A dedication ceremony was held on February 16, 2002. The home was turned over to the new tenants at that time.
Habitat for Humanity International was founded in 1976 by Linda and Millard Fuller. Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical, Christian housing ministry that seeks to eliminate poverty housing from the World and to make a decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. By having needy and affluent people work together in equal partnership, Habitat builds new relationships and a sense of community, as well as new housing.
